Recommended Health Testing for Breeders
Testing of breeding stock is very strongly encouraged but not mandatory. The most common recommended tests are:
- Hips: Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or Penn Hip
- DNA: Canine Multiple System Degeneration (CMSD or PNA), Factor XI
(Hemophilia C), von Willebrand (vWD), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)
Additional available tests that could be considered are:
- Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF)
- Heart, Elbows
- Patella’s
- Complete Blood Count (CBC)
- Brucellosis and Canine Herpes
